Before KASIKORN RESEARCH CENTER (KResearch) rose to its present status as a subsidiary company of the Bank, it had its beginnings in 1970s as an academic unit within the Bank itself. KResearch’s predecessor unit was first tasked with producing academic information for the Bank’s clients and the general public. It also served as an academic resource for other units within the Bank, producing a twice-monthly news summary, which included many topics, such as general economic conditions, industrial outlook, agriculture industry, money and banking, and foreign economies. Also published were annual reports on specialized economic subjects.
In 1984, its mission was broadened to become the Academic Section, with its academic work broadening for the benefit of the Bank and the public.
In 1994, the KASIKORNBANK sought to augment the capabilities and performance of the Academic Department in keeping abreast of contemporary developments in the global economy, business, money and banking, and decided to give the Academic Department more autonomy – giving it the freedom to conduct its research work into a wider range of topics.
