• The SET hit a 6-month high during the week before paring gains at the end of the week.
The SET surged midweek in line with other bourses, amid domestic institutional investors’ purchases. The rally was supported by expectations of a Fed Funds rate cut at the upcoming September meeting, as well as the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)’s latest policy rate cut during the week. Stocks across all sectors rose, especially those in the finance sector, which was seen as benefiting from the declining interest rate trend. The SET was also supported by share purchases of a major car title loan company following changes in its shareholder structure.
However, the SET declined towards the end of the week after hitting a 6-month high of 1,283.55 points due to investors’ profit-taking, particularly in shares of a major airline company, which experienced a significant rise earlier. Notably, foreign investors were net sellers of Thai stocks this week, following five consecutive weeks of net buying.
