The SET dropped almost throughout the week amid sell-offs of domestic institutional and foreign investors. Aside from sell-offs for position adjustments ahead of the BOT’s MPC and FOMC meetings early in the week, the SET was also pressured by sell-offs of retail stocks (due to the news of a major retail company investing in a subsidiary that is not its core business). Such sell-offs caused the SET to drop below 1,400 points. The SET rose briefly during midweek, boosted by purchases of banking stocks after the BOT’s MPC decided to hold the policy rate steady and purchases of retail stocks following their sharp fall earlier. However, the SET dropped again in line with other stock markets after the FOMC meeting. Although the Fed cut the policy rate as market anticipated, it signaled a slower pace of rate cuts next year. The SET continued to drop and hit its lowest point in more than 3 and a half months of 1,361.34 points at the end of the week. On Friday, December 20, 2024, the SET closed at 1,365.07 points, down 4.65% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB50,657.93 million, up 31.66% over-week. The mai closed at 302.77 points, down 4.60% over-week. December 23-27, 2024, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,350 and 1,340 points, but resistance at 1,375 and 1,385 points, respectively.
