The SET continued to fluctuate this week. It dropped early in the week in line with other regional bourses amid concerns over US economic outlook as affected by the policies of President Donald Trump, and Chinese economic outlook after the inflation data came out lower than expected in February. The SET later rose briefly on institutional investors’ purchases following the news of the Cabinet’s approval of the establishment of Thai ESGX fund to boost the stock market, leading to short-term buying across all sectors. The SET tumbled again around the middle of week and hit its lowest in nearly 5 years of 1,157.96 points after having responded to the positive factor of Thai ESGX. Investors shifted their attention to trade war issue due to the news report about trade conflicts between US and Canada/EU during the week, leading to sell-offs across all sectors, especially the technology sector (due to additional pressure of the news that the NBTC is reviewing protocols for telecom spectrum auction). However, the SET rebounded at the end of the week in line with other regional bourses, boosted by investors’ purchases after a sharp drop. On Friday, March 14, 2025, the SET closed at 1,173.76 points, down 2.35% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB40,271.08 million, down 9.69% over-week. The mai closed at 246.17 points, down 2.39% over-week. March 17-21, 2025, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,150 and 1,140 points, but resistance at 1,190 and 1,200 points, respectively. KResearch advises investors to watch key factors, including the FOMC meeting results (March 18-19), trade conflicts between US and its trading partners, and foreign fund flows. The US economic data that warrant close monitoring include February Retail Sales, Housing Starts, Industrial Production, Existing Home Sales, plus Weekly Jobless Claims. Close attention must also be paid to the upcoming BOJ and BOE meetings, China’s LPR for March and Retail Sales and Fixed Asset Investment for January-February, plus Eurozone’s and Japan’s February CPI.
