  • The Thai stock market dropped below 1,400 points in the first week of 2025 due to concerns about global minimum tax.
The SET dropped slightly early in the week, which was the final trading day of 2024, as some investors held off on trading before New Year holidays due to the lack of new supportive factors. (the SET index closed at 1,400.21 points on December 30, 2024, down 1.10% form the closing level at the end of 2023).
The SET continued to drop on the first trading day of 2025 amid sell-offs of various large-cap stocks, led by electronics producer stocks and energy stocks due to concerns about the impacts of the global minimum corporate tax at  15% on multinational enterprises, effective January 1, 2025. However, the SET recovered somewhat at the end of the week, boosted by the buybacks of electronics producer stocks and energy stocks. Stocks in the banking sector outperformed those in other sectors this week, attributed to speculative buying ahead of the announcement of their performance results for 4Q-2024.
  • On Friday, January 3, 2025, the SET closed at 1,384.76 points, down 1.19% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB32,833.89 million, up 4.56% over-week. The mai closed at 307.41 points, down 0.87% over-week.
  • January 6-10, 2025, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,375 and 1,360 points, but resistance at 1,400 and 1,410 points, respectively. KResearch advises investors to watch key factors, including Thailand’s Inflation data for December 2024 and foreign fund flows. The US economic data that warrant close monitoring include Services ISM/PMI, ADP Employment Report, Non-farm Payrolls, Unemployment Rate for December 2024, Imports and Exports for November 2024, FOMC minutes, plus Weekly Jobless Claims. Close attention must also be paid to Services PMI for December 2024 of Japan, China and Eurozone, plus Eurozone’s CPI for December 2024 (Flash) and PPI for November 2024.
