The Baht hit a 6-week low While the SET continued to drop over-week

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • The Thai stock market fluctuated during the week before falling for the second consecutive week.
The SET tumbled early in the week, mainly dragged by power plant stocks due to concerns about electricity price cuts and communication stocks due to concerns about the impact of the Royal Decree on Internet Crime Prevention and Suppression. It surged later after news reporting that Donald Trump is considering scaling back his tariff plans  to focus on specific industries, rather than imposing tariffs on all imports.

The SET tumbled again around midweek in line with other regional stock markets, dragged by expectations that the Fed would slow the pace of rate cuts this year and the news reporting that Donal Trump is considering a national economic emergency declaration to back universal tariff plans. In addition, the SET was pressured by the case of pledging shares by major shareholders of a listed company. However, the SET rebounded somewhat at the end of the week, mainly boosted by purchases of technology stocks. Stocks in the banking and technology sectors outperformed those in other sectors this week, attributed to speculative buying ahead of the announcement of their performance results for 4Q-2024.
  • On Friday, January 10, 2025, the SET closed at 1,367.99 points, down 1.21% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB40,287.44 million, up 22.70% over-week. The mai closed at 294.38 points, down 4.24% over-week.
  • January 13-17, 2025, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,350 and 1,330 points, but resistance at 1,380 and 1,400 points, respectively. KResearch advises investors to watch key factors, including remarks of Fed officials, 4Q-2024 performance results of Thai listed companies, particular those in the banking sector, and foreign fund flows. The US economic data that warrant close monitoring include PPI, CPI, Housing Starts, Industrial Production for December 2024, plus Weekly Jobless Claims. Close attention must also be paid to the Eurozone CPI for December 2024 , plus China’s GDP report for 4Q-2024 and economic data for December 2024 such as Retail Sales and Industrial Production.
