The Baht weakened while the SET dropped on foreign investors’ sell-offs

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
•    The Thai stock market dropped throughout the week amid sell-offs of foreign investors.
The SET dropped from the beginning of the week amid investors’ profit-taking due to the lack of new supporting factors and the public holiday during the week. Although the government announced new policies to be implemented next year, such positive factor had limited effect on the Thai stock market. Energy and refinery stocks dropped the most this week due to profit-taking and concerns about the risks that Thailand may face from the policies of US President-elect Donald Trump.
The SET continued to drop until the end of the week in line with other regional bourses due to investors’ risk-off sentiment while waiting for the signals of monetary policies at home and abroad from the FOMC meeting and the BOT’s MPC meeting to be held next week.
•    On Friday, December 13, 2024, the SET closed at 1,431.67 points, down 1.40% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB38,475.83 million, down 6.00% over-week. The mai closed at 317.37 points, down 1.32% over-week.
•    December 16-20, 2024, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,420 and 1,400 points, but resistance at 1,445 and 1,460 points, respectively. KResearch advises investors to watch key factors, including FOMC meeting (December 17-18), the BOT’s MPC meeting (December 18) and foreign fund flows. The US economic data that warrant close monitoring include December PMI (Flash), November Retail Sales, Industrial Production, Housing Starts, Existing Home Sales, Personal Income and Outlays, and PCE/Core PCE Price Index, GDP report for 3Q-2024, plus Weekly Jobless Claims. Close attention must also be paid to the upcoming BOJ and BOE meetings, December PMI (Flash) of Japan, Eurozone and UK, Japan’s and Eurozone’s November CPI, China’s December LPR and November economic data such as Industrial Production and Fixed Asset Investment.
