The Thai stock market moved in a volatile range early in the week amid sell-offs of information and communication technology, power plant, finance and other stocks, while waiting for new supporting factors. The SET later surged in line with other regional stock markets after China announced new economic stimulus measures, which helped boost the purchases of petrochemicals and construction materials stocks. The SET dropped again from middle to the end of the week in line with foreign investors’ sell-offs of Thai stocks. The SET was also pressured by the ADB’s downward revision of Thai GDP for 2024 and 2025 by 0.3% to 2.3% and 2.7% respectively, resulting in profit-taking in various stocks, led by banking stocks, and construction materials and petrochemicals stocks (which rose substantially earlier). The SET continued to drop towards the end of the week, in the opposite direction seen in other regional stock markets. On Friday, September 27, 2024, the SET closed at 1,450.15 points, down 0.11% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB57,371.50 million, down 6.68% over-week. The mai closed at 354.53 points, down 1.24% over-week. September 30 - October 4, 2024, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,440 and 1,420 points, but resistance at 1,460 and 1,475 points, respectively. KResearch views that key matters to watch include remarks of Fed Chairman and other Fed officials, and foreign fund flows. The US economic data that warrant close monitoring include September Manufacturing and Services PMI/ISM, ADP Employment Report, Nonfarm Payrolls and Unemployment Rate, plus Weekly Jobless Claims.
