The Baht and SET surged on fund inflows but pared gains somewhat at the end of the week due to concerns about US rate hikes

  • The SET closed below 1,700 points after facing sell-offs at the end of the week at 1,699.20 points, but up 1.49% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB100,856.58 million, up 52.96% over-week. The mai closed at 639.72 points, down 1.58% over-week.
  • The SET rose amid continued net buying from foreign investors and positive outlook on the 2022 Thai economy, given that its recovery momentum is expected to continue from 2021. Large-cap stocks in many sectors, especially banking and information and communication technology (ICT) sectors, reported substantial increases this week. The Thai bourse, however, pared gains somewhat later on amid concerns about the Fed Funds rate hikes after US inflation hit its highest level in 40 years amid surging new cases of COVID-19 there
