The Baht weakened while a trading circuit breaker was triggered twice during the week as the SET fell sharply

  • The oil-price war and COVID-19 weighed on the SET. The SET closed at 1,128.91 points, down 17.27% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB94,371.65 million, up 46.53% over-week. The mai closed at 232.09 points, down 13.83% over-week.
  • ​​The SET fell sharply early in the week amid concerns over the oil-price war after talks between OPEC and its allies broke down on March 6, 2020. The SET then slipped again after The WHO declared COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic while  trading was temporarily stopped twice during the week after it fell 10% (triggering the threshold for circuit breaker) on March 12 and 13. However, the SET pared losses somewhat as the SET temporarily adjusted the short selling rules and considered more measures to boost the equity market.
