The SET moved within a tight range early in the
week before surging later in line with other regional stock markets. It was
also boosted by the purchases of large cap stocks in the energy and
petrochemical sectors. However, the Thai bourse gradually dropped around
midweek amid ongoing concerns about the worsening COVID-19 situation at home.
Meanwhile, the rising US inflation rate and latest FOMC minutes spurred a
sell-off in risky assets while falling global oil prices added more pressure to
the energy sector. In addition, foreign investors remained in a net selling
position throughout the week.
