The SET dropped sharply early in the week in
line with other regional stock markets amid concerns towards the debt default
crisis of a Chinese property giant. However, the SET rose during the rest of
the week on purchases of bank shares, supported by expected benefits from adjustments
to the criteria for inclusion of stocks in the SET50 and SET100, plus news on a
major bank’s business restructuring. In addition, the SET was boosted by
foreign investors’ net buy positions at the end of the week.
