The SET dropped sharply early in the week in
line with other regional stock markets, and on news regarding sub-variants of
the Delta strain found in Thailand, plus sell-offs of institutional and foreign
investors. The SET then rose briefly before dropping again from midweek due to the
lack of new supportive factors, plus sell-offs of technology and
energy/petrochemical stocks (following the drop in global oil prices. In addition,
investors reduced their risky positions ahead of the upcoming FOMC meeting, and this also
pressured the market, as investors expected that the Fed will announce its QE
tapering plan.
