UEFA Euro 2012: Bangkok Residents may Spend THB570 million on Sweepstakes (Business Brief No. 3302)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
Sweepstakes seem very popular with UEFA Euro 2012 fans and others interested in such contests. The number of Bangkok residents participating in such sweepstakes this year are expected to be similar to what was seen during the UEFA Euro 2008 as those entering these amusing activities have the chance to win valuable prizes totaling more than THB100 million. Amid a higher cost of living, many people hope that they will gain wealth by entering sweepstake programs. In addition, entrepreneurs who would like to increase their business incomes during this sporting event may revise marketing strategies based on this popular theme, i.e., inviting consumers to guess the winners of each match as well as the champion. Thus, the participation in this activity is expected to be very active this year.
To ascertain Bangkok residents behavior toward UEFA Euro 2012 sweepstake programs, KResearch conducted a survey and found that the number of those participating in sweepstakes will reach 1.78 million people, accounting for 43.2 percent of all Bangkok residents, rising over the 40.9 percent for UEFA Euro 2008. Most sweepstake participants prefer sending postcards, SMS and coupons from newspapers detailing their predictions for the winning team(s) to join these drawings.

KResearch also expects that spending by Bangkok residents on sweepstakes will be around THB570 million, including costs of postcards at THB220 million (accounting for 38.6 percent of the total); newspapers at THB180 million (31.6 percent); SMS at THB100 million (17.5 percent); product purchases (to send packaging for joining the sweepstake programs) at THB60 million (10.5 percent), and phone calls at THB10 million (1.8 percent).
