Highlights

  • In 2009, private investment accounted for 73 percent of all investment in Thailand. Leading indicators in this area include the Private Investment Index, the Business Sentiment Index (BSI), the Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI), and the industrial capacity utilization rate.
  • First quarter 2009 private investment in Thailand started to improve. The value of private investment (at fixed price) expanded, after a contraction of 4.6 percent in fourth quarter 2009 YoY concomitant with the economic crisis and delayed investment decisions of entrepreneurs.
  • KASIKORN RESEARCH CENTER projects that private investments will gradually recover in 2010, in line with the recovery of exports and production. Private investments are projected to rise 4.7 to 8.6 percent, partly due to a small base of the preceding year.
