- Online music stores allow the customer to listen to samples before making purchases. Payment may be made via mobile phone, or payment may be made in advance, allowing the consumer to download music using a login and password.
- Piracy is a major problem for the music industry, with at least 20 million pirated CDs made and distributed annually. Music is also downloaded from websites that permit uploads in violation of copyright. Such music may then be copied to CD and shared among friends. Unauthorized file sharing is another avenue of copyright violation. Other copyright violations include downloaded ringtones, calling melodies and full songs for mobile phones. These are very popular at mobile phone and other shops. Copyright violations are estimated to cost the music industry about 2.5 billion THB (75 million USD) annually.
