Overview
The Thai commercial banking system includes banks registered in Thailand and branches of foreign banks. Banks registered in Thailand include full-service banks, retail banks, and subsidiaries of foreign banks; such subsidiaries are authorized to engage in a wider range of business activities than are branches of foreign banks and to operate multiple branches. The new structure of the banking system, including Thai banks, branches of foreign banks, and international banking facilities emerged from the Bank of Thailand Financial Master Plan of 2004.
