Free Trade Areas (FTA) have been a key strategy for Thailand to conduct its trade policy during the past years. Under FTA agreements, the member countries have to reduce or eliminate both tariff and non-tariff measures to become the least possible within the stipulated time frame; while trade barriers for the non-members will remain unchanged. At present, FTA have been extended from trade to liberalization of services and investment as well as other issues related to international trade and investment, for example trade accommodation, protection of intellectual property, mechanism of dispute resolution between the states and foreign private entities.
