Food Delivery: Growing 15 Percent…Amid Economic Slowdown (Business Brief No.2251)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
Prevailing economic sluggishness and high oil prices have had wide-ranging impacts on scores of businesses. Bucking this trend, the food delivery business has flourished as more and more consumers show a preference for eating at home rather than dining out in order to save on travel and other expenses. Delivery services serve the needs of customers who do not want to cook themselves. Overall, food delivery services have grown prodigiously, with vast potential still lying ahead. Restaurateurs and food outlets have been seen offering delivery services to customers as part of their efforts to boost sales turnover.
KASIKORN RESEARCH CENTER (KResearch) forecasts that domestic food delivery services in 2008 may earn some THB5 billion, up 15 percent, over-year. The food delivery business can be classified into two categories, i.e., deliveries of raw materials for cooking and of ready-to-eat items.

To survive the tough competitive environment in the food delivery business in 2008, emphasis should be placed on adjusting business strategies to better match the changing consumer behavior. This will prove to be a challenge for business operators who want to win a greater market share over their rivals. Given the hefty market turnover, the food delivery business is quite interesting and promising. Still, proper R&D should be conducted on niche markets such as the health food segment that can potentially offer greater value.
