World Cup 2010 Mania: Bangkok Residents Cheer Favorite Teams (Business Breif No.2221)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
The extremely popular World Cup 2010 tournament, with the highest TV broadcast ratings worldwide, has nearly reached the quarter-final stage. Thailand is one of few countries that have all matches broadcast live because there are a large number of football fans in Thailand.
To investigate the Bangkok residents' preference for news programs during June –July 2010, KASIKORNRESEARCH (KResearch) conducted a survey on the ;World Cup 2010 Viewing Behavior of Bangkok Residents”, during June 4-18, 2010, with a total sampling group of 552 respondents, aged between 15-65. The survey shows that the majority of the sampling group – 57.8 percent– were interested in the game results and news on the 2010 World Cup tournament, while 55.98 percent of the sampling group indicated that they preferred watching political news, and the remainder expressed a preference for general, economic or entertainment news. It is possible that the number of Thai football fans viewing the live broadcasts of this FIFA event may be higher than the number that watched the televised matches of the 2006 tournament.
The survey also reveals that 82.5 percent of Bangkok residents have been watching the live broadcasts, especially the matches of their favorite teams. It is noticeable that the proportion of viewers intending to watch all 64 matches of this tournament has increased over what was seen during the World Cup 2006.
TV will likely be the most popular media format for football fans to keep abreast of updates on their favorite teams' pre- and post-game activities through news and game analysis programs because TV offers both a visual and audio experience, versus the single sensory experience of other media.

However, the role of digital media, such as the Internet and mobile phone news services has also been increasing due to upgrades in technology that allow viewers to enjoy the games while on the move. As a result, teenagers and career people have tended to engage in this media. This trend will offer opportunities for all product owners because they can introduce products via a wide variety of media during this exciting world-class sporting event.
