If Thailand imports corn from the US, animal feed costs could fall by 8% (Current Issue No.3595)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • Thailand’s domestic corn production falls short of demand by around 3.8 million tons per year, necessitating imports to meet the rising need for animal feed. In 2025, demand for chicken and pig feed is projected to grow by 3.7 percent.
  • Thailand would benefit from importing US corn at an average price of USD 254 per ton, which is about USD 47–118 per ton cheaper than imports from its main suppliers – Myanmar and the Lao PDR.
  •  Importing corn from the US would positively impact animal feed producers and livestock farmers by lowering their costs, but would negatively affect domestic corn growers due to a drop in prices. However, Thailand is unlikely to face any impact on its chicken meat exports, even if the chickens are fed with GMO corn.
