What will happen to Thailand’s pork market if the country opens up to US pork and offal imports? (Current Issue No.3591 Full Ed.)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • Pork and offal are among the top agricultural products serving as bargaining chips in trade negotiations between Thailand and the US, especially after the US announced reciprocal tariffs. Thailand is subject to a 36-percent levy, effective August 1, 2025.
  •  The US pork industry operates on a large, efficient scale with high competitiveness. As a result, US pork can be sold at a lower average price of USD 1.70 per kilogram, compared to Thai pork, which sells at an average of USD 2.30 per kilogram.
  • Thailand’s opening its market to low-priced US pork would impact the entire Thai pork supply chain. Farmers, in particular, would be forced out of business in greater numbers, and the domestic pork market could lose around THB 112.33 billion in value.
