The Thai stock market dropped almost throughout the week. The SET rose briefly early in the week in line with other stock markets, boosted by foreign investors’ purchase. However, the SET tumbled during the rest of the week amid concerns over the prospects of the Fed’s aggressive rate hikes, as the US August inflation came out higher than market expectations, plus concerns about global economic outlook, after the World Bank warned that the global economy could tip into a recession in 2023. In addition, the Thai bourse was further pressured by the FTSE’s decision to reduce its weight on Thai stocks, effective in September 2022.
On Friday, September 16, 2022, the SET closed at 1,630.40 points, down 1.46% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB74,222.67 million, up 10.10% over-week. The mai closed at 675.52 points, up 1.28% over-week.
