The Thai stock market surged early in the week amid purchases of large-cap stocks, led by the retail sector, as they are expected to benefit from domestic economic stimulus measures, and the technology sector on expectations of 2Q-2024 performance results. The SET then fell briefly following investors’ risk-off mode while monitoring domestic political issues and sell-offs of a major power plant operator’s shares due to its specific issue. However, the SET rebounded from midweek, boosted by continued buying of retail and technology stocks, and expectations of the Fed’s rate cuts, after the Fed Chairman stated that US inflation has slowed down and holding interest rates too high for too long could jeopardize economic growth. Nonetheless, finance stocks dropped in the opposite direction of other sectors amid concerns about the NPL outlook, which could affect 2Q-2024 performance results.On Friday, July 12, 2024, the SET closed at 1,332.04 points, up 1.53% over-week. The average daily trading value was THB36,365.94 million, up 14.84% over-week. The mai closed at 356.52 points, up 1.38% over-week. July 15-19, 2024, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,315 and 1,300 points, but resistance at 1,340 and 1,350 points, respectively. KResearch views that key matters to watch include Fed Officials’ remarks, Thai listed companies’ performance results for 2Q-2024 especially banking sector, and foreign fund flows. The US economic data that warrant close monitoring include June Retail Sales, Housing Starts and Industrial Production, plus Weekly Jobless Claims.
