  • The Thai stock market rose almost throughout the week, supported by both domestic and external factors.

The SET Index surged from the beginning of the week, driven by Fitch Ratings' revision of Thailand's sovereign credit outlook from “Negative" to “Stable," which encouraged buying by foreign investors and domestic institutional investors, led by banking stocks. In addition, optimism regarding US-Iran discussions on the sidelines of the UNGA meeting, together with buying interest in stocks of electronic components manufacturers in line with the rally in overseas technology stocks, helped the SET Index to extend its gains through mid-week.

However, the SET Index experienced a brief pullback afterward as investors awaited developments from the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The market later resumed its upward trend towards the end of the week, supported by Thailand's August export figures, which continued to show strong growth, as well as buying interest in stocks of a major electronic components manufacturer.
