The Baht moved within a tight range while the SET rose despite pressure from COVID-19 situation


The SET rose over-week despite pressure from the uncontrollable COVID-19 situation at home. The bullish Thai stock market early to midweek was mainly supported by institutional investors’ purchases, especially banking stocks (as bank branches in department stores are allowed to reopen), and financial stocks (as some non-bank players have increased their car title loan interest rates). However, the SET fell briefly during the week, as the market interpreted the FOMC meeting minutes that the Fed may taper its QE program by the end of 2021.
