The Baht rebounded but the SET fell at the end of the week on COVID-19 outbreak concerns

  • The SET index pared gains at the end of the week amid concerns towards the COVID-19 outbreak. However, the SET rose 1.79% over-week, ending at 1,364.57 points. The average daily trading value was THB64,402.74 million, down 21.77% over-week. The mai closed at 269.34 points, up 2.90% over-week.
  • ​​The SET index fell slightly early in the week before surging during the rest of the week as central banks especially the Fed cut rates. The increase in SET index was also due to anticipated domestic economic stimulus to be approved by the Economic Cabinet, with the aim of offsetting the COVID-19 impact. However, the SET pared gains somewhat at the end of the week amid concerns over the global and Thailand economic slowdown amid escalating COVID-19 outbreaks outside of China.    ​
