ASEAN faces some of the highest reciprocal tariffs, with Vietnam and Cambodia potentially suffering major GDP blows, while Indonesia may see limited effects (Current Issue No.3575)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • ASEAN faces relatively high reciprocal tariffs from the US, with CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam) being subject to 45-49 percent tariffs. The US actions may severely impact the regional economy, with Vietnam and Cambodia experiencing the greatest risk.
  • Vietnam: If its trade talks with the US fail, it will risk attracting less foreign investment and facing a contraction in exports, specifically in the electronics, furniture, textile and footwear sectors.
  • Indonesia: Although facing limited effects, the government is preparing trade negotiations to cushion the mineral refining and palm oil sectors.
  • Cambodia: Reciprocal tariffs may put Cambodia’s investment at greater risk as it is heavily dependent on Chinese investment, and the projected contraction in Cambodia’s exports may hurt its textile, apparel, footwear, and travel-related product industries.
  • Laos: China’s economic slowdown may indirectly affect Laos, while vulnerability may be seen in Laos’ key exports to the US, including apparel, footwear, and coffee.
