The conflict in Iran has affected maritime transport and Thailand's exports to the Middle East. However, the overall impact on Thailand's power converter exports remains limited, as the Middle East market accounts for only around 1% of Thailand's total power converter export value.
Investment in data centers is supporting the Middle East power supply market; China continues to dominate imports.
The product category most affected is power supplies, which account for nearly all of Thailand's exports of power converters to the Middle East, representing about 97% of total export value. Power supplies cover products for various industries, including computer and server equipment.
The Middle East continues to invest in data centers, as reflected by the increase in the number of data centers from around 260 in 2020 to 347 in 2025. This expansion supports growing import demand for power supply equipment, especially products related to computers and servers.
However, despite the continued increase in demand for power supplies in the Middle East, the region still relies primarily on imports of power converters from China. China accounts for more than 56% of total imports, while Thailand holds only around a 1% share, reflecting Thailand's limited competitiveness as compared to China.
The Iran war is expected to cause Thailand's power converter exports to the Middle East to contract by 30.9% in 2026.
In 2026, Thailand's export value of power converters to the Middle East is projected to decline by 30.9% from the previous year, particularly during April–May, when the conflict in Iran disrupted maritime transport and significantly affected exports.
However, before the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Thailand's exports of power converters to the region had been growing strongly, expanding by around 46% as compared to the previous year. Even after the conflict erupted in March, exports remained relatively stable as compared to the previous year.
Although tensions are expected to ease toward the end of the year, exports will continue to face pressure from higher transportation and operating costs. At the same time, investment in the data center sector is expected to recover slowly, limiting the pace of export recovery.
