Televisions, 2014: Growing At Least 13.9 Percent on FIFA World Cup and Digital TV (Current Issue No. 2458 Full Ed.)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
In 2013, the domestic television receiver market was relatively sluggish since consumers apparently delayed purchases pending clarity on the digital TV switchover by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). However, after the NBTC issued quality certifications for DVB-T2 television receivers and set-top boxes to major manufacturers and distributors, and announced digital TV service startup dates amid the upcoming FIFA World Cup in mid-2014, the television receiver market began to pick up in late 2013.
We at KResearch are of the view this market will continue to thrive in 2014, thanks to a number of factors besides those mentioned above, including 1) vigorous marketing campaigns by manufacturers and distributors to bolster sales; 2) more affordable Internet television receivers; and, 3) efforts by major distributors to expand distribution channels. However, they are being urged to brace for political uncertainty, hefty household debt, a slowing property market and declining farm income.

Given this, KResearch expects that turnover in the television receiver market during 2014 will grow 9.5-13.9 percent to perhaps THB37.9-39.3 billion, representing the total sales of 3.2-3.4 million units, up 9.8-16.8 percent YoY. Last year, turnover grew 4.6 percent YoY to about THB34.5 billion, with the total sales of 2.9 million units, up 11.5 percent YoY.
