The price of physical books has seen an average annual increase of 4.7 percent due to continuously rising production costs, while e-books are approximately 27 percent cheaper. This has led some consumers to reduce their purchases of physical books and turn to reading e-books. Bookstore revenue is still declining, but at a slower rate. In 2025, it is projected to decrease by only 4.5 percent, compared to the average annual contraction of 14 percent before COVID-19.
