Fast fashion industry emits more carbon than the aviation and shipping industries combined
  • The textile and clothing industry emits an average of 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, accounting for approximately 6-8 percent of global carbon emissions. This is more than the combined emissions from the aviation and shipping industries, which stand at 2-3 percent.
  • More than 100 billion garments are produced each year worldwide, and a staggering 92 million tons of textile waste ends up in landfills. Driven partly by the growth of fast fashion industry, textile waste is expected to surge to 134 million tons per year by the end of this decade.
  • KResearch estimates that Thailand's textile and clothing industry contributes 4-8 percent of the country's total carbon emissions each year.
