Chinese cars are entering the global market, causing Thai car exports to shrink by 3% to 900,000 units in 2026 (Current Issue No.3627)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • Thai car exports are increasingly being squeezed out by China’s. Competition from Chinese xEVs is notably intensifying in the passenger car segment. While Thailand’s pickup truck exports continue to perform well, challenges have begun to be seen in major markets like Australia due to China’s emergence as a key competitor. Similar patterns are occurring across many other markets.
  • In 2026, Thai car exports are expected to continue declining by 3 percent YoY to around 900,000 units, down from the 930,000 units projected for this year. Therefore, to overcome continued contraction in the future, it is essential to accelerate development to become a major production base for the in-demand xEV passenger cars and pickup trucks. At the same time, efforts should be made to reduce the production costs of internal combustion engine (ICE) pickup trucks to remain competitive with China, while actively seeking new opportunities to expand exports to new markets.
