Political reforms in Myanmar obviously lead to restoration and broadening of political and economic relations between Myanmar and other nations, particularly with the US that plans to ease sanctions against them. This would support positive changes toward trade and investment there, thus possibly boosting Thai exports to Myanmar, thanks to our long-standing trade relationship.
A bright future should lie ahead for our construction-related products, machinery and parts, building materials and vehicles, e.g., cars, equipment and parts. In addition, the IMF projects that economic growth of Myanmar should attain 5-6 percent annually by 2015, generating higher incomes for workers and consumers in Myanmar, thus benefiting Thai exports of food and beverages to Myanmar, as well.
Greater extent to which the sanctions against Myanmar will be eased should help Thai businesses to obtain sources of raw materials, including some rare items, such as gemstones, especially rubies, and timber for our enhanced production and export potentiality.
