Rupiah hits record low, prompting BI to hold key rate at 4.75% for the fourth consecutive month (Business Brief No.4235 Full Ed.)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • Bank Indonesia (BI) kept its policy rate steady at 4.75 percent for the fourth consecutive month during its first monetary policy meeting of the year held on January 20-21, 2026. The move was aimed at stabilizing the Rupiah, which fell to an all-time low amid capital outflows and heightened financial market volatility.
  •  Looking ahead to 2026, there remains room for further rate cuts should currency pressures begin to ease. BI is expected to lower rates two times in the first half of the year amid low inflation, a gradual recovery in domestic demand, and incomplete monetary policy transmission.
