Sustainability trends to watch in 2025 (Current Issue No.3555)

In 2025, sustainability may continue to be a global priority, impacting domestic businesses and industries. Sustainability efforts may include the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), COP30 commitments, and the Global Plastics Treaty.
In addition, toughened domestic measures may force the business sector to take more actions to reduce the impact of climate change. Such measures may include the draft Climate Change Act, the sale of UGT1 clean energy electricity, and the ban on plastic waste imports.
High-emitting industries may be directly affected. However, China’s export market shift and the accelerated imports of the US in substitution for Chinese goods may benefit domestic consumers and export-oriented manufacturing industries in the short term, especially for eco-friendly products.
