• Thailand’s exports continued to grow strongly in September 2026, rising 24.0 percent YoY to a record high of USD 38,438.9 million. Electronics products were the main driver, supported by their role in the supply chains for advanced technology products related to AI and data centers, which continued to see robust growth.
• Meanwhile, imports surged 50.4 percent YoY to a record high of USD 44,295.6 million. Imports of electronic equipment expanded significantly, in line with export growth and domestic investment in the data center and electronics industries. Fuel imports also recorded strong growth, driven by price factors.
• KResearch has raised its forecasts for Thailand’s export and import growth in 2026 from 14.0 percent to 20.5 percent and from 27.0 percent to 34.0 percent, respectively. Electronics shipments are expected to continue expanding strongly, underpinned by robust global demand for AI- and data center-related products. Meanwhile, imports are expected to grow faster than exports, supported by energy prices that are likely to remain elevated, as well as rising demand for capital goods and intermediate goods to accommodate domestic investment and continued growth in export-oriented manufacturing.
• Despite the upward revisions to both export and import growth forecasts, Thailand’s customs-based trade balance is expected to remain broadly unchanged from the previous forecast. The impact on GDP, however, will depend on revisions by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) to reflect changes in the Bank of Thailand’s balance-of-payments-basis trade data.
