Flooding in Songkhla and several other southern provinces expected to cause at least THB 25 billion in economic losses (Current Issue No.3624 Full Ed.)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • KResearch assesses the impact of the ongoing flooding in Songkhla and several other southern provinces in two parts. The first concerns the knock-on effect from the disruption of economic activity, which can be roughly estimated. The second involves property damage, which is more complex because such losses may be recognized gradually over time by multiple sectors besides households, including the government, financial institutions, and business partners.
  • For the first part, the economic impact is expected to be no less than THB 25 billion over a one-month period, or around 0.13 percent of nominal GDP. The estimate assumes severe flooding during the first 10–15 days, particularly in Songkhla, where almost all areas have been inundated, with conditions gradually easing over the subsequent 10–15 days.
  •  After the floodwaters recede, affected households will have to address property damage. The extent of these losses will take time to materialize and depends on various factors, including household savings and earning capacity, overall economic conditions, support from creditors and business partners (including financial institutions), and government measures.
