Closure of the Thailand-Myanmar border is expected to impact border exports by THB 5.6-9.7 billion per month (Current Issue No.3597 Full Ed.)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • The border closure has a significant impact on Thailand-Myanmar trade, as 82.5 percent of the trade between Thailand and Myanmar takes place at the border. Additionally, Mae Sot is Thailand’s most important export checkpoint to Myanmar, accounting for 58.1 percent of the total value of Thailand-Myanmar border exports.
  • KResearch estimates that the closure of the Mae Sot-Myawaddy border checkpoint will cause Thailand to lose THB 5.6 billion per month in export revenue, accounting for approximately 4.8 percent of total Thailand-Myanmar border exports. However, if the situation were to expand to all other border checkpoints, that figure would increase to THB 9.7 billion per month, or approximately 8.2 percent of total Thailand-Myanmar border exports.
  • In the longer term, this event could be a significant turning point for Thailand-Myanmar border trade trends, as it highlights the structural risk of over-reliance on a single main trade route.
