The Baht weakened while the SET closed higher for the third consecutive week

The Thai stock market rose over-week amid continued buying by foreign investors.
The SET Index rose early in the week, mainly driven by banking stocks which saw increased buying ahead of the announcement of their 2Q-2026 performance results, as well as energy stocks, which benefited from rising global oil prices due to renewed tensions in the Middle East after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the US President's idea of imposing fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The SET Index moved within a narrow range later in the week but resumed its upward trend from mid-week, reaching its highest level in nearly 3 years and 5 months at 1,642.14 points, driven by continued buying from foreign investors. In addition, the lower-than-expected US CPI and PPI figures for June also supported the Thai stock market, as concerns about the Fed's accelerated interest rate hikes eased. The SET Index continued to rise towards the end of the week, outperforming regional bourses, driven by buying interest in a major energy company amid expectations of stronger earnings prospects.
On Friday, July 17, 2026, the SET closed at 1,639.04 points, up 1.08 percent over-week. The average daily trading value was THB82,231.04 million, up 2.02 percent over-week. The mai closed at 229.34 points, up 1.40 percent over-week.
During July 20-24, 2026, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,600 and 1,575 points, but resistance at 1,645 and 1,670 points, respectively. KResearch advises investors to watch key factors, including Thailand’s June Exports, the gradual release of 2Q-2026 performance results of Thai listed companies, particularly those in the banking sector, developments in the Middle East, and foreign capital flows. US economic data that warrants close monitoring includes July Manufacturing and Services PMI (Flash), June New Home Sales, plus weekly jobless claims. Other important overseas economic indicators to monitor include China’s July LPR, the upcoming ECB, Japan’s June CPI, plus Manufacturing and Services PMI (Flash) of Japan, Eurozone and UK.
