The Thai stock market fluctuated before rebounding to close higher at the end of the week.
The SET index rose early in the week, supported by Thailand’s 2Q-2026 GDP figures, which came in better than expected despite slowing growth. In addition, the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) revised its 2026 GDP growth forecast upward from 2.0% to 2.2%, prompting broad-based buying interest across several sectors, led by banking sector.
However, the SET Index gradually pared its gains until mid-week, mainly due to selling pressure from foreign investors after the earlier positive factors had already been priced in. Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East remained elevated. Leading the decline were stocks of electronics component manufacturers, which followed the downward trend of global technology stocks, as well as a major bank whose primary shareholder reduced its stake. The SET Index subsequently traded within a narrow range before rebounding to close higher towards the end of the week. The recovery was supported by buying interest in energy stocks after a foreign brokerage raised its investment weighting recommendation for the sector. In addition, the renewed buying in banking stocks also helped support the market.

On Friday, August 21, 2026, the SET closed at 1,613.78 points, up 0.29 percent over-week. The average daily trading value was THB81,954.62 million, up 12.53 percent over-week. The mai closed at 230.28 points, up 1.11 percent over-week.
During August 24-28, 2026, KSecurities expects the SET to have support at 1,600 and 1,586 points, but resistance at 1,630 and 1,655 points, respectively. KResearch advises investors to watch key factors, including the BOT’s MPC meeting (August 26), Thailand’s July Exports, Fed Chairman’s remarks at the Fed’s Jackson Hole symposium, developments in the Middle East, and foreign capital flows. US economic data that warrants close monitoring includes July New Home Sales, Durable Goods Orders, PCE/Core PCE Price Index, and Personal Income and Outlays, GDP report for 2Q-2026, plus weekly jobless claims. Other important overseas economic indicators to monitor include China’s July Industrial Profits.
