The UK is set to introduce a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) similar to that of the EU, making carbon data another competitive factor for exports.

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
  • The United Kingdom (UK) is preparing to implement its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (UK CBAM), effective January 1, 2027, covering five major industrial sectors: iron and steel, aluminum, cement, fertilizers, and hydrogen. Recent legislative progress includes the release of a procedural summary and carbon calculation guidelines for public consultation, helping businesses prepare ahead of its implementation.
  • Importers with an annual import value exceeding GBP50, 000 (approximately THB2.1 million) will be required to report carbon emissions data as mandated by law. However, in practice, the cost of reporting will fall back on upstream producers. As a result, exporters or raw material manufacturers within the supply chain to the UK will face requirements to provide carbon data and may incur additional verification costs.
  • KResearch assesses that carbon emissions reporting will become a new competitive factor beyond pricing. Although CBAM covered goods represent only 1% of Thailand’s total export value to the UK (around THB1.9 billion), the measure may pose adjustment risks and increase assessment and verification costs for businesses that lack readiness and credible carbon data.
