Foreign visitors to Thailand have continued to reach sizable numbers due to our good tourism ambience and many other helpful factors. The number of international tourist arrivals to Thailand during 4Q12 rose to 6.33 million, and a similar trend continues well into the first quarter of 2013, when the 18.9-percent YoY growth was reported, with 6.83 million tourists.
Despite April being within the annual long-haul tourism low season – including those from Europe – collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote Songkran Festival did the trick. Festive events and activities were arranged in the most popular 13 provinces focused on by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and elsewhere, so we expect to attract a large number of short-haul visitors from within East Asia.
KResearch predicts that tourist arrivals in April will reach 2.0 million, rising 18.6 percent YoY. Of that total, 35 percent – representing over 700,000 visitors – will likely have come to Thailand for the Songkran celebration, April 12-16. They are expected to have generated nearly THB30 billion in revenue to Thailand, increasing 18.1 percent YoY, 30 percent of which would normally go to hotels and accommodations located within our many tourism destinations nationwide.
