Democrats’ sweep limits Trump’s ability to advance new policies but does not immediately change the overall policy direction (Current Issue No.3664 Full Ed.)

คะแนนเฉลี่ย
• The Democratic Party’s control of both chambers of Congress will limit the Trump administration’s ability to advance new legislation and budget proposals, while also intensifying congressional scrutiny. However, key policies are likely to remain in place through the exercise of executive authority, with geopolitical and trade policy uncertainties remaining key risks going forward.
• As for the impact on the Thai economy, key risks to monitor include higher energy costs, additional US trade protectionist measures, and financial market volatility, which could affect inflation, household purchasing power, and exports. Nevertheless, the ongoing diversification of global supply chains continues to provide opportunities for Thailand to attract investment in the electronics, semiconductor, and data center industries, although growth prospects remain dependent on the global AI investment cycle.
• The election results could help ease upward pressure on US and Thai bond yields. Thailand’s 2-year and 10-year bond yields are projected to stand at 1.30 percent and 2.50 percent, respectively, at the end of 2026, based on the assumption that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will keep the policy rate unchanged at 1.00 percent at its remaining meetings in 2026. Meanwhile, the Thai Baht may appreciate periodically, although the scope for appreciation is likely to remain limited, as the Fed could raise its policy rate one more time before the end of the year. The year-end forecast for the Baht is therefore maintained at THB 33.80 per USD.
