คะแนนเฉลี่ย

The government announced its policy to parliament, aiming to lead the country towards carbon neutrality.
On September 12, 2024, the new government delivered a policy statement to the parliament addressing the challenges posed by climate change, intensifying natural disasters, and the PM 2.5 particulate matter problem that is impacting various sectors of the Thai economy. Meanwhile, the government continues to support fossil fuels to provide affordable energy.
In the short-term, the government will revise laws to liberalize direct power purchase agreements (DPPAs) between private entities and explore new fossil fuel sources in the overlapping areas between Thailand and Cambodia, aiming to secure affordable energy for power generation.

In the medium and long-term, the government will pursue two environmental policy directions.
            1. Promote adaptation to climate change by restoring natural resources, developing infrastructure, and improving water management systems to ensure sufficient water supply and mitigate flood and drought risks.
            2. Promote greenhouse gas emissions reduction to achieve carbon neutrality and support environmentally friendly industries, including:
  • Energy Sector: Promote renewable energy generation and free electricity market mechanisms.
  • Transportation Sector: Transition of the automotive industry from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (HEV, BEV, and Fuel-Cell EV).
  • Agriculture and Industry Sectors: Enhance production processes to be more environmentally friendly.

KResearch estimates that the new government will likely continue the environmental policies of the previous government, which will positively contribute to the country’s pursuit of carbon neutrality. The private sector should monitor the bills and measures currently under consideration such as:

  • Clean Air Act draft:
  • Climate Change Act draft
  • Carbon tax
These policies will impact private sector operations.
